Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, Inc. (ICUT), a nonprofit association, is the voice for Texas' fully accredited private colleges and universities. For almost 40 years, it has fulfilled its mission of helping policymakers recognize the importance and value of the independent sector of higher education by successfully articulating the sector's needs and aspirations.
ICUT has four purposes. First, the organization speaks for its member independent colleges and universities as they serve and promote the purposes of the total Texas higher education system and accept the responsibility for their share of the educational function. In addition, ICUT represents the interests and protects and promotes the general welfare of the nonprofit, tax-exempt independent colleges and universities located in the State of Texas.
ICUT also promotes and advances the interests of the Texas system of higher education, including both public-supported and independent colleges and universities, with special concern for the dual nature of the system, its quality, freedom, and responsibility to serve the educational and cultural needs of the state, nation, and the world. Finally, ICUT assists in cooperative endeavors with state-supported institutions and agencies in performing the educational tasks and meeting the educational needs of Texas.
A Voice In Government
Over the years ICUT has achieved numerous legislative goals, including developing, preserving, and enhancing the TEG program, establishing appropriate regulation of the private sector of higher education, authorizing tax-exempt bond facilities financing, and initiating other legislation related to the operation of charities.
